Gypsytrap Farms
Cannabis Lifestyle

With Self-Love, Female Empowerment & now the Legalization of Cannabis happening, it seems only fitting that we would embrace it all. With our art & collaboration, we can help kill the stigma behind Cannabis. It's far safer than alcohol or prescription drugs, and people who medicate themselves with Cannabis shouldn't have to feel ashamed or looked down upon. Not everyone who uses marijuana is a 'thug' or a 'pothead'. Cannabis has no face and the stereotypes are false. We believe in love, we believe there are far more good people in this world than bad, and we believe in following where our hearts lead us.

Recently, Maria & I headed out on the Sierra Foothills to follow along in a days work on the farm with Gypsy Trap Farms. Let's just say, we never wanted to leave! This lifestyle they have single handedly created was so inspiring, and while we know so much work has been put in to get here, they make is look so easy!

This duo prides themselves on farming organically and producing clean products for their boutique clients to enjoy. I was in complete awe of not only their dedication and hard work, but their knowledge on the flower, growing & benefits of Cannabis. Maria & I were commissioned for this project to document their work on the farm as well as capture lifestyle images to represent their brand. We've got more on the website, but here's a peek into our newest project - to see more visit our new Instagram @MJLifestyle

My sissy's having a baby! Again!

My beautiful baby sister is having her second baby and we couldn't be more excited! However, the little sh*t isn't finding out until the baby comes and we are DYING to know if we will be blessed with another mini-Drew or if we will get a sweet little-lindsay to love. As I write this, she is just 4 days away from her due date and she is doing everything she can to evacuate this lil bundle. I'm hoping she just relaxes for a few moments longer until baby is good and ready to be here because life won't be this quiet for quite some time! lol

We started out my sister's shoot at her house, where we took a couple of candid shots of the family. Hudson, my darling nephew who recently turned two acted his age and reminded us of how much easier our first maternity photo shoot was. I love his little mischievous expressions he gives and I know exactly how to play him and make him think it's his idea to give me loves. I seriously can't tell you how much I love being an Auntie!

After grabbing a few shots at home, we headed north to Walnut Creek to visit the Ruth Bancroft Garden, a stunning historic cactus and succulent garden. This place is breathtaking! Too bad, the minute we rolled into Walnut Creek, a storm had rolled over. We waiting for it to let up and because Linz and Drew are such troopers, we bundled up Huddy and went on to shoot. The staff there was more than welcoming and we can't be more pleased with the outcome of these images!

Now if only our little prince or princess would arrive!

Personal Branding Shoot
Grant Parr with Gameface Performance

I got a message from the Senior Varsity Heartthrob - oops! I mean, Quarterback, asking if I was available to do his headshots for his new Consulting Business. I'm not sure we ever actually met, I was a little shy freshman who observed more than anything, but our town has a small town feel to it and somehow over the course of 20 years and mutual friends we ended up being FB friends.

I showed up at his place excited to dig into his story and find out more about his goals for his consulting business and basically catch up on the past 20 years or so. After his football career was cut way too short due to an injury, 2 hip replacement surgeries, and 3 years of disability, he received his degree in Communications, moved on from sports and spent the next 17 years in tech sales.

I can't imagine how incredibly frustrating it must be to be forced to throw in the towel on something you love so much. I often think what would happen if I didn't have a right arm, what the hell would I do? Fortunately, Grant found a way he can still fuel his passion for sports and coaching. He decided to go back to school, got his Master's Degree and has started his own Mental/Sports Performance Consultant business focusing on high impact and combat sports. Moms and Dads, Mental Awareness is HUGE especially when you think about raising a son or a daughter to be a professional athlete. They are one bad play away from being ridiculed on social media or like Grant, an injury away from no longer playing. He's here to up your mental game, go check him out! GAMEFACE PERFORMANCE

Grant, huge congrats on bringing your passion back into your reality and thank you for sharing your story with me. I'm thrilled for you and can't wait to see what you bring to the game. xo

What are you so afraid of?

I've been home about 3 weeks now and the recent conversations with people I havent' seen in a while have got me thinking.. When I left for Kansas, I was very thin with anxiety, I enjoyed fitting into clothes better, but it got to a point where I couldn't even find jeans that didn't sag in my booty and my neck skin started to sag because I had nothing on me and quite honestly, my head was not in the right space. Fast forward a year a half of being away, some ovary issues, a cranky hip, new meds and well, to say the least I've gained a few of those lbs back. My girlfriend Shannon has been nudging me to get back into my U-Jam class because our instructor Jollene's energy is something I just can't get enough of. I was able to go to a few classes in KC, but the classes were smaller and darker so we couldn't see too much of ourselves in the reflection staring back at us. Not the case in Jollene's class, this ray of sunshine has a bright, positive space to dance away anything on your mind. I kept catching glimpses of myself with disgust 'Ugh, why did I wear this tank top? All I could look at was my flabby, white, lumpy arms staring back in the mirror. I found that every time I just ignored the chick in the mirror, the sexier I felt dancing to the music. It suddenly hit me why so many women don't 'have the guts' to do a photo shoot that is all about them.

I know that I am not happy with the way I look right now and that I don't really care to see anymore of myself than I already do. But nobody else sees the things we hate in ourselves, the things we fixate on and hold against ourselves. Nobody cares about those things, all they want to see is your smiling face dancing to the beat of your own drum.

What if I could show you how beautiful you are? What if we could give you an extraordinary day of beauty, fashion and empowerment? Leave you with a sense of accomplishment, bravery and confidence. Don't you think you deserve this? And hasn't it crossed your mind 'I wonder how I would look doing one of these?'. Aren't you curious? Do you think you can go your whole life not knowing how it feels or how freaking good you might photograph? Do you want to go through your whole life not pushing yourself to take that jump into the uncomfortable. And don't think you need a lover to have yourself photographed. This is a gift for you, this is part of your life story. A little piece of yourself that you can share or hold tightly onto. Our photoshoots can be anything you want, the limits are endless, just imagine as if someone was writing a magazine article about you. This is about who you are when you close your eyes, it's about fantasy and you can be whomever you want to be.

We really don't even know what the call this anymore, because it isn't all boudoir, it's got a bit of lifestyle and fashion mixed in there too. Our production-style shoots are story-boarded, styled and shot like an editorial feature, complete with hair & makeup styling by industry leader, PMA. Collectively, our team will curate a moodboard, collaborate on wardrobe, location scout, and design an incredible photo shoot with magazine worthy photographs show for it. This JENNIFER SKOG EXPERIENCE celebrates the life you created and will leave you feeling beautiful, empowered and craving more!

So the other day, I was chatting with a friend on the phone and I shared that I had been considering doing something with my career for 2 years now. Flabbergasted he said "What are you so afraid of?!!" I was speechless. He's absolutely right, what am I so afraid of? All of could think of is the young girl that was encouraged never to be afraid to pursue your dreams. If anyone can do it, I can. And that is absolutely what I hope you take from this message.

All shoots booked between January and April will receive a special one of a kind gift from yours truly.

xo,
Jen

Personal Branding Shoot
with Girlboss Marrin Costello

Last year I dove myself into Sophia Amoruso's incredible book 'Girlboss' and when I mean dove, I mean, plugged my headphones in and listened to the Audible version from Amazon :) I've never been much into reading, I find my mind wanders too much and I just end up frustrated after ready 15 pages and having no idea what just happened. Plus, it's rare that I have quite alone time (or the patience) to sit and read. So, after making fun of my bestie Maria for always having some strange man speaking to her through the speakers when I jump in the car to head to a shoot, I finally gave Audible a try. Although as of right now, I've only listened to female authors lol I just can't seem to be engaged with male voices haha! sorry dudes. lol I have to say that after discovering Audible and books on tape, I feel so much smarter and informed and it's quite entertaining with the right books. Anyway, after 'reading' this '#Girlboss' I've been nothing but inspired by the way Sophia has single handedly influenced so many women to take charge of their lives and thrive! I wont give out too many details, but EVERY woman - and men you can ready it to - to read this book. like asap. Now, I'm obessed with Girlbosses everywhere! and.. Sophia has a podcast @Girlbossradio you should go check out!

Which leads me to my leading lady of today's blog post, Marrin Costello. When I first met with Marrin, I was so inspired by her drive and fire and talent (obvi) that all I kept thinking was what a little bad ass this chick is! I couldn't help but dream up ways to show off this sassy GirlBoss and her business. With her jewelry line getting tons of buzz lately, she needed some current images reflecting her brand, style & new do (she had recently cut off about 12 inches and went blonde!!). I got to team up with one of my makeup artist favs - Camille Goldston to rock this chick out and my sweet friends at Asiel Design were kind enough to share their killer warehouse with us to shoot in! It was an absolute honor to photograph you girl! I can't wait for the next time and #dontforgettoaccessorize !
